June 30th, 2009 Kristin Knits Trunk Show at Tucson Yarn!

Greetings!

Hard to believe it’s the midpoint of summer already and it’s time for fireworks, fun, and of course, knitting!

Holiday hours: Open 10am-5:30 on Friday, July 3 - Closed on Saturday, July 4th!

Our latest trunk show from Kristin Nicholas if finally here! It’s loaded with wonderful small projects perfect for holiday giving in brilliant colors. If you’ve seen the terrific book, “Kristin Knits” you know you’re in store for a delightful up close and personal look at the real projects. The weather is hot outside now, sure, but start chipping away at that holiday list now with these delightful quick knits (wristlets, socks, kaleidescope hats and more) in glorious living COLOR from Nashua. Julia is the yarn that Kristin designs with and uses in the book and we have it in 28 eye-popping colors. Great color, soft luxury is yours with 25% alpaca, 25% mohair, and 50% wool. Kristin uses lots of fair isle (great for two-fisted knitting!), surface embroidery, and steeking to get the job done quick! Need a little help with those? Just ask! Start building your color palette - all those little scraps will be perfect to pull from for the delightful little cross-stitch, french knot, and daisy stitch embellishments that make each piece unique. Kristin also has a whimsical way of using pompoms - we’ve got the ULTIMATE pompom maker from Clover in sizes from teeny (ok, they call it small) to gigantic so you can crank out those pompoms in perfect round form. Get your stash of Julia ready, we just got a sneak peek at the NEW book coming in November - ooh la la!. The show will be here through July 11 so don’t miss it.

Check out the silky sophistication of Albero, a new yarn of cotton and Lenour viscose - we’ve got a very inspiring sample garment for you to see. Grace in both the handpaints and solids is another winner - a sleek worsted weight yarn that combines the sheen of silk and the resilience of wool. If you’ve got a special baby to knit for, stock up on Kashmir Baby (it really IS machine wash) and peruse the Louisa’s new book of enchanting baby and children’s wear, Bizoo Bizou.

Bebe Cotsoy is another new winner we’re using for adult & baby knitting. Terrific for Tucson, it’s available in 13 colors and features a delightful soy viscose, cotton blend that knits up at five stitches to the inch on size seven needles. Don’t overlook Sirdar’s Baby Bamboo. It’s a DK weight that is anything but just for baby - try it in a cool summery garment for yourself, we’ve even had folks knitting lacy scarves with it! It’s machine wash, perfect for Tucson heat.

Construction update: It’s getting there! Workers are in and out at a crazy pace next door as we get ready for the big move to bigger space. We’re crossing fingers to get the space released to us in the second week of July so OUR work can begin. Look for more move in news soon - we’re guessing the second week in August. More yarn, more accessories, a huge classroom, and even a library area for all the new books and patterns to inspire you are coming soon! We hope you’ll love it.

As always, the new books and individual patterns keep rollin’ in. We’ll show you what’s hot while we stay cool. There’s a whole new crop of “animal knitting & crocheting” going on. Into Amigurumi? Come see what the fuss is about for both hooks and sticks! (Doesn’t everyone need a knitted praying mantis?) New class schedule is in the works and will be available shortly. Big news there is that we’ll be in a wonderful new classroom when we move! We’re hoping to greatly expand our offerings, if you’re interested in submitting a teaching proposal for a course, talk to Cyd (229-9276). Our weaving program will continue and we’ll have some other new surprises for you as well!

We’ll be closed on the 4th of July - hope yours is safe and filled with fun. We’re thinking about evening hours beginning in fall - we’d love your input on which night it will be, please click on the link for our survey regarding night owl knitting!

Stay cool and as always,

Happy knitting!
