September 12th, 2014 Jackpot o’ Yarn & New Class Schedule!

Remember - Our summer hours are still in effect - Closed Mondays (open Mondays starting in October!) Open Tuesday through Friday 10am-5:30pm, Saturday 10am-5pm.

Our fall class schedule is READY. Sign up over the phone or stop by. Big news, after a long wait, we’re unveiling the next level of Mapping - amazing title - MAPPING 2! If you’ve taken the original mapping, you’ll love Mapping 2 where we take on more complex challenges such as short rows, shaping, color changes and how to answer the “will I have enough yarn” question. Don’t miss out!

Another new class is just for crocheters - Hip to Be Square will have you on your way to an afghan in no time. Work in squares and the whole thing fits in a small portable bag…check out the block samples in the store.

Looking for new patterns or a trusty reference book? Remember our new everyday low price policy with 30% off all our books everyday! We know that many patterns are purchased through Ravelry, but we hope when you’re shopping for books, you’ll consider purchasing them here at Tucson Yarn Co. Also featured as a special price item for this coming month will be Cascade 220 Superwash at 25% off the regular price limited to stock on hand (all sales are final at this great price!). Did someone say “holiday knitting”????

As summer wanes, we’re knee deep in the colors and textures of beautiful fall yarn offerings from all our suppliers. Shipments are starting to drift in with classic fall colors in rich teals, deep blues, olive greens, and wondrous purples. One that we’re especially charmed by is the brand new (only one project on Ravelry so far), Fine Donegal from Debbie Bliss (413 yards per ball). A magnificent blend of merino and cashmere spun into a heavenly, tweedy fingering weight. The colors say “autumn” and we’re playing with the huge range of colors as we plot out our multi-color knitting - got Brooklyn Tweed patterns in your sights? This yarn works perfectly as a substitute for Loft - check it out!

Also just in the door, more new colors of Findley from Juniper Moon (there’s finally a great deep blue!) and two astonishing new colors of Ella Rae Lace Merino (in spite of the name it’s a wonderful fingering weight that’s hand dyed). At the other end of the scale, we have an amazing new bulky weight that is lighter than air - check out Paloma in a huge range of decidedly fall colors. Whether you’re after a Gaptastic Cowl or something else that calls for bulky, this one’s a real winner!

Also nestled into a basket are 11 colors of a new offering from our friends at Noro. Always considered the king of color, Noro has come out with a glorious palette of solids, done with the usual Noro flair. Silk Garden Solo boasts the same silk/mohair/wool blend of the multi-colored Silk Garden, but it’s beautiful even in it’s semi-solid shades. Use it on it’s own or combine it to coordinate with the original Silk Garden. Amazing.

We’re starting to deal with the approach of holidays in our usual calm way. (WHAT?!?!?! It’s how many days????) and so we’re looking for a start on gift-y sorts of things. New takes on fingerless gloves, scarves, and other one skein beauties are on our list. We’re waiting for Churchmouse Yarns and Teas fall release of accessories which are always winners - coming in October! In the meantime, we’re hooked on Ferryboat Mitts, Welted Fingerless Gloves, Racing Raindrops Scarves, Lace Backed Fingerless Gloves and more. Stop in to see our samples and get going!

More new things coming from the color wizards at Dream in Color - loads of Smooshy with Cashmere and Wisp (a lace beauty) in new colors, and fingering and lace weight versions of a single ply wonder called Jilly. We can’t wait! Join us soon!

New changes in our Wednesday and Saturday Knit Along groups - they’re still meeting from 9-11am but now it’s open season knitting, bring whatever it is that you’re working on and enjoy two hours of friendly social knitting. It’s not a class, but just fun social knitting. Get ideas (don’t blame us if you HAVE to cast on three new things NOW), be inspired, and join us!

See you around the big table,

The Tucson Yarn Co. Crew
