June 14th, 2013 Summer Hours & Bit by Bit: A Festival of Afghan Knit Alongs!!!

New issues of Interweave Crochet are here to keep you busy as well. And the latest Noro Magazine is a visual feast with great projects for knitters and crocheters.  Our new summer program is off and running! We’re calling : Bit by Bit: Afghans the EZ Way! This series of FREE Knit Along focuses on knitting and crocheting afghans “bit by bit”. Our current group continues this Saturday from 9-11am:  we’ll convene and have a cozy little group that’s working on afghans (yes, you CAN get it done!). Right now we’re featuring one of our very favorites - a beautiful modular afghan or throw done completely in squares made one at a time in fingering weight or leftover sock yarns. No getting buried under a big blanket while you’re working, this is a perfect take-to-the-poolside-in-the-car-or-to-the-softball-game knitting. Swing it into a ziplock and stick it in the beach bag or tote and keep going! Once you get the pattern idea (we’re using Heirloom Stitches 9-Patch pattern available at TYC) it’s breezy, no note sort of knitting. Elaine will host this one. You’ll need to be able to work on double points or circulars (two circulars or magic loop) to get it started in the center of the square. If squares aren’t your thing, it’s OK, just bring whatever afghan you’re working on and join the group! The KAL is free but we’d love to have you sign up in the shop and take a peek at the samples on display. We’ll get the project going over three weeks of meetings. YOU CAN DO IT! Next up, crocheters will have a turn, too. Starting Wednesday, July 10, Cyd will host a KAL with colorful Granny Squares & Motifs as the focus. Remember, all afghan projects, knitted or crocheted are welcome at all KAL dates. We’ve also rolled our new Koigu Colors Club for all of you who are in love with the magical handpainted yarns that are distinctively Koigu. We’re now up to 56 colors of KPPPM (new colors just hit this week) and here’s how it works: Purchase a one year membership in the Koigu Colors Club for $20 and receive two full skeins of KPPPM as a welcome gift (valued at $28). You’ll receive a punch card to track your future Koigu purchases and when you fill it with 10 punches, you’ll receive another free KPPPM skein of your choice. We’ve got some other things up our sleeve for Koigu Colors Club members to roll out throughout the year including some Koigu Knit Alongs. Don’t forget, summer is the perfect time to brush up on your knitting or crocheting skills. We have a great schedule or classes to keep you cool and get your ready for your next knitting/crocheting adventure. Schedule is available online or in the shop.
